Mitsui Ocean Cruises Launches Summer Japan Sale With Up to $1,000 Onboard Credit
Mitsui Ocean Cruises has announced a summer promotion for its Japan itineraries, offering $1,000 onboard credit per suite or $500 per guest on double-occupancy bookings across all sailings between 3 June and 19 September 2026. The offer covers eleven voyages operated by the 458-guest Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which entered service with the line in December 2024 after previously sailing as the Seabourn Odyssey.
The promotion was announced via travel trade press on 8 May 2026. Travel advisors booking these itineraries also receive a 15% commission, suggesting the line is actively pushing bookings for summer availability.
What the itineraries cover
All eleven sailings depart roundtrip from either Kobe or Yokohama and range from five to nine nights. Highlights include:
- Mystic Isles & Southern Shores (3–12 June, 9 nights from Kobe): visits Tanegashima, Yatsushiro, Fukue, Hamada, Busan, Shimonoseki and Onomichi-Itozaki.
- Fireworks & Island Rhythms (3–10 July, 7 nights from Yokohama): calls at Nakatsu, Yeosu, Shimonoseki and Aokata.
- Summer Fireworks Festival (17–23 July, 6 nights from Kobe): includes Nagasaki and Aburatsu alongside a stop in Busan.
- Pearl Coast Passage (10–17 July, 7 nights from Yokohama): visits Toba, Yeosu, Karatsu and Sukumo.
Most ports of call are small coastal cities and island stops rarely served by international cruise ships, making these sailings an efficient way to see lesser-visited corners of Kyushu and the Seto Inland Sea without complex independent transport logistics.
Why this is worth considering in summer
Summer is among Japan’s most demanding seasons for independent overland travel. Heat, humidity and peak-season crowds concentrate at inland heritage sites like Kyoto and Nara. Coastal and island ports tend to be cooler by comparison and see far fewer tourists. A cruise also compresses the complexity of getting around Japan when visiting several small ports in a single trip — no overnight buses or multiple hotel check-ins.
The onboard credit is substantial at the luxury end: $500 per person can cover excursions at several ports, while a $1,000 suite credit goes a long way toward specialty dining and spa services on a ship of this size and category.
